Get Up with Confidence™ Workshop

Learn the Skills That Could Help You Stay Independent for Years to Come

One unexpected slip doesn't have to take away your confidence.

Whether you've already noticed it's becoming harder to get on and off the floor—or you simply want to be prepared before you ever need to—our Get Up with Confidence™ Workshop teaches practical skills that can make all the difference.

This interactive workshop is designed for adults who want to maintain their independence, improve mobility, and gain confidence knowing they can safely move between the floor and standing.

You'll leave with practical techniques you can use for years to come.

Is This Workshop Right for You?

This workshop is ideal if you:

  • Feel unsteady getting up from the floor

  • Avoid activities because you're worried about how you'll get back up

  • Have knee, hip, or balance problems that make floor transfers challenging

  • Want to remain active and independent as you age

  • Care for an aging loved one and want them to be better prepared

No recent fall is required—you don't have to wait until there's a problem to learn these valuable skills.

What You’ll Learn:

During this hands-on workshop, you'll discover:

✔ Why getting on and off the floor becomes more difficult with age

✔ Common mistakes that make standing up harder than it needs to be

✔ Multiple techniques for getting up safely from the floor

✔ How to use furniture correctly for support

✔ Simple exercises that improve strength, mobility, and confidence

✔ When it's safe to get up on your own—and when you should call for help

You'll also have the opportunity to ask questions and receive individualized guidance throughout the session.

Practice in a Safe Environment

Learning by watching isn't enough.

You'll actually practice the techniques during class in a supportive, supervised environment.

For those who need extra reassurance, we use a body-weight support harness system that allows participants to practice without the fear of falling. This lets you focus on learning the movement—not worrying about losing your balance.

Everyone progresses at their own comfort level, and participation is always voluntary.

Why This Workshop Is Different

Most programs talk about fall prevention.

We go a step further by teaching the practical skills that help you stay independent if you ever find yourself on the floor.

Led by licensed physical therapist Michele Walker, this workshop combines over 30 years of clinical experience with evidence-based movement strategies that are practical, realistic, and easy to remember.

You'll leave feeling more prepared—not more fearful.

FAQs

Do I have to be able to get on the floor already?

1

No. We'll meet you where you are and teach strategies appropriate for your current abilities. Participation is always voluntary.

5

What if I’ve had a joint replacement?

2

Can my spouse or caregiver attend?

Many people with joint replacements can safely participate. We'll discuss any precautions and modify techniques as needed.

Is this only for people who have fallen?

3

Not at all. In fact, many participants attend because they want to be prepared before they ever need these skills.

What if I can already get on and off the floor, but I just don't like to?

4

Then you're exactly the kind of person this workshop was designed for.

Many people can still get on and off the floor, but they notice it's becoming slower, more awkward, or requires pulling themselves up with furniture. Those are often early signs that strength, mobility, or movement strategies could be improved.

In this workshop, you'll learn easier, more efficient techniques, practice movements that build confidence, and discover exercises that can make getting down to—and back up from—the floor feel more natural. Improving these skills now can help you stay active, independent, and confident for years to come.

Absolutely. Care partners often find the workshop helpful and are welcome to attend.
